Apple Orchard (Beth Jarrett)

On October 21st we went to the Pleasant View pumpkin patch/apple orchard for Aspen's third birthday. We met Beth Jarrett and her two kiddos Conner (4) and Alyson(2). Aspen loves playing with her kids.
Beth and I met through a mom's facebook playgroup in the summer of 2013. We ended up going on walks together at near by Ft. Harrison park. That's when we discovered our mutual love of finding bargains. If there is a yard sale, kid sale, or coupon Beth and I are on it! Shortly after our first walk we kept bumping into each other at mutual yard sales or around the community. We have had impromptu play dates at yard sales and at the Deals dollar store. Haha!
Beth was able to use the free pass that I was given to this past Indy Kids Sale. We both had a blast shopping for our kids for 3 hours. I think we were both so so tired after the shopping marathon. Beth has been able to also start coming with me to volunteer at the near by church clothing closet a couple times a month. We also have been able to attend each others kids birthday parties. Since we have so much in common it is hoped that we will be able to keep having fun together in the upcoming months.

October 20th, 2013

For the 5th October in a row Luke, the kids and I attend the Tails and Trails Dog Walk fundraiser that is supporting the Tails and Trails rescue located on the south side of Indy. The dog walk is hosted by my in laws at Buck Creek Farm. People near and far bring their dogs and walk them from the farm to the near by winery.
Tails and Trails Rescue is operated by Rescue Coordinator Moe Tibbetts. Paula Barz also helps with the fundraiser along with the rescue efforts.

I first met Moe and Paula because I worked with Moe's long time friend Richard Skirvin. Who is married to Luke's aunt Joan.  Skirv aka Uncle Dick introduced me to his nephew which I later married. Moe is also a realtor and was able to help us in the hunt and purchase of our first home. She has been a friend of the Lomax's/Skirvin family friend for many many years so she became a facebook friend through me meeting and marrying into the Lomax clan. Paula and Moe have been together for many many years as well so they are a package deal. :)

Their rescue is an all breed rescue for both cats and dogs. You can learn more about what they do for animals at www.tailsandtrails.org or their facebook page www.facebook.com/tailsandtrailsrescue

Window Washing (Brian and Christine Beck)

10-16-2013

Seriously who blogs about washing windows??? uh this girl!
Last night I was able to help out a few of our church members that are moving back to their home town in Illinois. I was supposed to be engaging in the weekly bible study (lifegroup) but our leader Ryan saw on facebook that the Beck's needed help moving so we walked over to their house from his while his wife stayed and watched the kids.
I met Brian and Christine about 5 years ago when they became part of Outlook Christian Church. Brian became the children's minister and Christine worked in the preschool.
I can tell you that the Beck's have A LOT of stuff. I didn't do much heavy lifting I was put in charge of the window cleaning. Its not too important of an activity but I guess someone needed to do it. So short story short I spent an hour cleaning windows, packing random odds and ends, and talking to Brian and Christine briefly about their next chapter in their lives. I prayed for each of them as I washed each window and I hope that their house will sell quickly and that Christine is able to find work so that they can move forward to a happy life in Illinois.

Lauras 30th (Sandy and Doug Mott)

10-12-2013

This weekend I was able to spend some time with some lovely people. Last night I celebrated my dear friend Laura Mott's 30th birthday party. I was fortunate enough to be able to plan the party with her mom, Sandy Mott. Her dad Doug was also present. The party was held at their home near Greenfield. Sandy and I successfully hosted a wine tasting party. We did this with no prior knowledge about wine or what happens at a wine tasting party. Basically I just told people they needed to dress up and bring the booze.:) So with tons of wine glasses and an awesome cake shaped like a wine bottle we sought out to entertain 20 of Laura's closest friends. Everyone looked divine in their cocktail dress attire. My Frank Sinatra Pandora station was not cutting it after 6 bottles of wine were tasted by all. So we opted to "Pump up the Jam" and rock out to some old school Salt n Pepa. Which everyone knows is my personal fav! I was able to actually add a new friend, Sarah Livingston to my friend list because we were able to start swapping birth and breastfeeding stories from the get go. Although there were several folks at the party that I am facebook friends with Im only going to count Sandy and Doug as being checked off for spending time with. The party was Laura focused but my time spent was more with Sandy and Doug vs Laura. She will have to get her own special day later in the year.

A letter to my Facebook Friends.

Hello to all my Family, Close Friends, Friends, Acquaintances, Fellow Church Members, Former Classmates, and People Ive never met but we know each other because of the all too famous Facebook.

For one reason or another you have made your way onto my "Friends" list. Maybe we met recently at a moms group, Maybe we took a class together 10-15 years ago, Maybe you have known me my whole life because I was born into your family or maybe only 5 years because I married into your family. Maybe we have not met yet??? Whatever the reason you are a part of my life. As most of you know I quit my career 7 months ago in order to stay home and take care of my kids and household. Although I am taking care of my kids and house I cant help but want to do more with my time. I would like to use it productively and make more time to spend with those around me. I want to know more about all the "friends" that I have collected in the almost 9 years of being a facebook member. What can you teach me? What can I teach you? How can we help each other? I want to invite you to become part of this journey that I have made for myself. I would like to meet and spend some time with each of you on my "friends" list. The possibilities are endless. We could go to dinner, have a playdate, a coffee date, talk to each other at a party, go for a walk, a shopping trip, maybe ill make you and your family dinner Maybe I could shadow you a day at your job. I hope through doing this we can both walk away with a positive experience.
I know some people may think that this is an awkward idea. Some may think I am just crazy and radical since I have either not met them or not seen them in years. My goal in doing this is not to make you uncomfortable or to inconvenience you but to get to know you. I want to get off of Facebook and get into peoples' lives. I want to see your smiling face, give you a hug, perhaps help you with a project, or learn something new.  I hope to see and get to meeting all of you soon.

Much Love,
  Ashley Lomax
